Looking Ahead: CTIA's Bluetooth Certification Program

The CTIA is in the process of developing a new certification program specifically for mobile phones, headsets and car kits incorporating Bluetooth® Wireless Technology.  The “CTIA Bluetooth Compatibility Certification Program” aims to deliver a seamless user experience through the vast number of Bluetooth mobile devices out on the US market.

The program involves submitting a device to a CTIA Authorized Test Lab (CATL) for testing against a pool of CTIA approved devices with complimentary Bluetooth® profiles and roles to ensure a high level of interoperability and user experience.  This testing is to be completed in addition to Bluetooth SIG Qualification.

The program is set to officially launch in January 2009. CTIA certification will most likely be a requirement for PTCRB approval. Currently in its pilot phase, manufacturers of Bluetooth® mobile devices have the choice of three designated CATLs authorized to perform the testing.

CETECOM Inc. is a designated CATL capable of performing testing according to the CTIA Bluetooth® Compatibility Certification Program.  Manufacturers of Bluetooth mobile devices looking to launch their products in the near future are recommended to consult with a CATL in order to avoid delays during product launch.
